Mayfair and the attacking love brigade

Back... It’s been over ten years, that the band has decided: It’s enough! And now again, we say: It’s enough! Enough paused. Mayfair is back! Ten years long everyone of us was pursuing his own (musical) way. Today we are again standing in the studio together – except for Little. The former drummer of Mayfair will be sticking with his own band projects. Nevertheless, Little will be supporting Mayfair in every way. And with Jolly we’ve found a worthy successor: Our new drummer is with the band from the very first beginning. He has been our roadie, our fan and now and then even a real slasher. Accepting the inheritance of Little is definitely not easy. But – and this we can say with absolute certainty after the first few days in the rehearsal room: We rock! ...to the roots. Also the rest of us is not, what it once was – which is meant absolutely positive! We have changed, we have matured and still we want “back to the roots”. We start, where we’ve ended ten years ago. During the rehearsals in June we could already feel it bombastically: the new spirit. Of course, Metal and Prog Rock were still itching under our fingers. Clearly, there we are rooted. To revive them we don’t have to dig deep. But we do so anyway and we dig even deeper. We are like musical gardeners: we take old seeds, plant them around our roots and water them with new influences. Yes! Cyberwanda is back in town. ...but the town has changed and so has Cyberwanda. Where we stand? At the beginning and that’s for the umpteenth time. because, as we see it, every new album is a recommencement. Where are we bound for? Who knows! Anyway, it is certain: We have hit the road at full throttle. The direction is settled: New songs and most of all concerts, concerts, concerts. The route is not yet clear – but we are getting there and we will keep you up to speed.

"Kauzig" beschreibt zumindest den Gesang ganz gut. Das ist schon sehr strange. Singt der immer so oder nur bei diesem Track?

Kann die Frage nach dem Gesang gar nicht wirklich beantworten, weil ich den überhaubt nicht (mehr) kauzig der komisch finde. Für mich eine absolute Hin- und Zuhörstimme.

Wer sollte sich schon für so nen Haufen Vorarlberger Fritzen interessieren?

Ich bekomm das Album, sobald es vom Presswerk kommt. Ich hätte es schon früher haben können, aber ich wollte unbedingt erst den finalen Mix. Reiner Schutzmechanismus, ich bin ja sowieso immer so anfällig, wenn mir der Sound nicht passt und ich wollt nix Pre-finales. Jolly liest gerade das Booklet Korrektur. Ich werde berichten sobald es soweit ist. Wahrscheinlich wird das Album auch im Soundcheck vertreten sein.

Da ich schon ein paar Songs hören durfte kann ich schon ein paar Eindrücke loswerden. Das Album ist nicht mehr proggy im Sinne von technisch verspielt, sondern sehr straight, was an der neuen Rhythmus-Sektion Jolly und Hannes liegt. Das gibt der restlichen Musik viel mehr Freiraum, um mit Sounds und Gesang zu experimentieren. Man lotet in der Tat ein sehr großes Spektrum an Sounds aus, vieles macht dabei Rene mit seiner Gitarre (Man hört, dass Rene ein großer Anhänger von HAWKWIND ist) und Sänger Mario ist in der Form seines Lebens. Nicht mehr so schrill wie früher, dafür teilweise aggressiver. Diese Shouts und Growls hat er tage-wochen-monatelag akribisch geübt, bis sie sich gut anhören. Und das tun sie. Es wird auch wieder vermehrt deutsche Texte geben, wie der Albumtitel schon andeutet.

Kurz: es wird viele Änderungen geben, aber es wird zu 100 % nach MAYFAIR klingen, schon ab der ersten Hörsekunde.
